At the 2014 annual general assembly, held October 29 and 30, 2014 in Orford, the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers presented the Gilles-Gauvreau tribute award to Bas-Saint-Laurent maple syrup producer Jean-Claude Ouellet.
A man of dedication with a straight-talking manner and a talent for bringing people together, Gilles spent much of life working for Syndicat des producteurs acéricoles du Bas-Saint-Laurent, making a name for himself through his determination and strong union convictions.
He helped optimize the collective marketing of maple syrup and maintain quality assurance. His remarkable contribution and commitment have left an indelible mark on our industry. He was one of the leading instigators and backers of some of our industry’s greatest collective successes, including the joint plan and the sales agency.
In 2012, the maple syrup producers of Quebec created the Gilles-Gauvreau tribute award to recognize a producer who has made an outstanding contribution to maple syrup unions and helped the maple syrup industry progress in Quebec and around the world.
