40,000 taps for young entrepreneurs
As a result of the historic June 7, 2016 decision by Régie des marchés agricoles et alimentaires concerning the issue of new quotas, a quota of 40,000 taps will now be distributed every year to young entrepreneurs.
This year, the PPAQ will issue 40,000 taps of new quotas for young entrepreneurs.
- If you are under 40 and over 18 and plan on starting, expanding, or buying a sugar bush (with or without a quota): Go to the Young Entrepreneurs tab.
Young Entrepreneurs Quotas Postponed until 2021
The quotas for 40,000 young entrepreneurs taps that would normally have been issued in 2020 will be rolled over into 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the agreement of Régie des marchés agricoles et alimentaires du Québec (“Régie”). That means PPAQ will be issuing quotas for a total of 80,000 taps in 2021.
Applicants who were eligible on June 15, 2020, will also be eligible in 2021. The necessary information and application forms will be available in April 2021.
Young Entrepreneur applications are eligible for a maximum of 25,000 taps. The quotas granted must be used by the 2022 season at the latest. Unused quotas will be reassigned. Producers who receive a part of these new quotas agree to personally operate their sugar bush for at least three (3) years as of the start of production.
