Conditions similar to last year, except for two elements
On March 28, 2019, the Régie des marchés agricoles et alimentaires du Québec approved the Maple Syrup Marketing Agreement, season 2019.
The marketing conditions in effect are therefore those of last year, except for the two new elements:
- The price of bulk maple syrup remains the same as in the 2018 Convention for the Golden, Amber, Dark and Very Dark categories. However, a discount of $ 0.55 / lb will apply to the price of unpasteurized processing grade maple syrup. This measure is intended to stimulate the development of markets for this type of maple syrup.
- The penalty for maple syrup with Brix degree greater than 69 is reduced to $ 0.50 / lb.
The Régie did not accept our other two requests relating to the California agreement, which were intended to protect maple syrup producers. There will therefore be no premium of $ 0.03 / lb for maple syrup produced in 2019 and which respects the California agreement.
In addition, the PPAQ and the CIE will have to discuss again in order to agree on a declaration of conformity, since the Régie has not accepted that it be annexed to the 2019 Convention.
