2022 was a record year for maple production in Québec, with a harvest estimated at more than 211 million pounds of maple syrup, representing an average yield of 4.26 pounds per tap.

Canadian Exports
In 2021, Canada exported more than 160 million pounds of maple syrup, worth more than $590 Million. This represents an increase of 19.2% compared to 2020.

Our Main Export Markets
QMSP invests a great deal of energy and financial resources in the marketing and promotion of Canadian maple products to nations abroad. These primary export markets are the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom and Japan.
Economic Impacts (Direct, Indirect, and Induced), in Millions of Dollars, of the Operations of the Québec Maple Syrup Industry in 2020
Overall in 2020, the operations of Québec’s maple syrup industry created and supported 10,878 full-time equivalent jobs, contributed nearly $979 million to the national GDP, and generated close to $199 million in tax and incidental tax revenues (not including rental fees for sugar bushes on public lands) for the various levels of government.
Of the three types of economic activity associated with the Québec maple syrup industry, production contributes the most to GDP and employment, representing more than 70% of total economic impact.
Using 2020’s numbers, we can extrapolate 2022 results—without considering inflation and assuming the same profit and expenditure structure—for a conservative estimate that the Québec maple syrup industry creates and sustains 12,583 full-time equivalent jobs, contributes more than $1.13 billion to Canada’s GDP (including $958 million to Québec’s GDP), and generates $235 million in tax and incidental tax revenues.
